Even doing your best effort, it is almost impossible to keep in control all the activities you have in your Company with no extra help. Doing everything could be understood when there is not enough personnel at the company, in any other case, you are just wasting a couple of minutes you could use in another more important task. Delegating work to other person does not mean that you will have less responsibility but that you will have more help to take more responsibilities and increase your company’s efficiency.

We all know that it is sometimes hard to delegate a task. That’s why we list you some important things you have to take into account when delegating tasks to your team:

  1. What to delegate?

This is a really important part of delegating. In it you have to take a couple of minutes and think about which tasks really need your help, it means, which ones should be supervised by your own and not by another person. In the other hand, you have to consider in which areas you do it better and which others are not your specialty, this will help you to determine which tasks could you delegate.

  1. When to delegate?

A really important factor is time. Focus on how much time you have to complete a task and if you are too busy, you should quickly get some help. It is also important that you keep in mind that if a task needs your style or you need to make totally sure about its quality you better don’t delegate it.

  1. How to delegate?
  • Don’t be afraid of delegating. Keep in mind that a professional is taking care of it.
  • Set your objectives. Consider the results you expect and let them know to the person you delegate the task.
  • Be able to support. Provide adequate support and give the necessary answers; remember that clarifying questions will ensure your project to be completed like your expectations.
  • The results are the most important. Keep in mind that the way you think is not the same your employee does, that’s why focusing on the results will let you discover that a job was well done. Of course, you could suggest some changes for it to look most accurate to your principal idea.
  • Don’t provide the answer. When a person is having problems completing a task, avoid giving the solutions or taking the responsibility back to you, you better provide recommendations about how to do it.
  • Keep the control. Deadlines, goals, and adequate feedback will ensure you have all under control.

  1. To whom delegate a task?

Knowledge, experience, and specific skills are some details you have to look for before delegating an important task.

There is no shame in asking for some help, you better focus on your skills and the ones another person can provide to your team. If on your own you can make a really great job, working with a team will make your company more efficient.
